Health information from the Internet is the key ingredient for advancing world health, according to a health publishing executive. C.W. Henderson, CEO of NewsRx, said that delivering the correct information in knowledge-based reports is the most efficient way for healthcare professionals to improve lives."Now consumers can improve their knowledge of healthcare, too, by using the Internet for information," Henderson said.NewsRx provides over one million pages of health information each year to pharmaceutical companies, medical researchers, public health authorities, educators, and managed-care professionals. Both in numbers of articles and report titles, it is the world's largest provider of health news and information to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.A 'Booster Shot' for Health SitesMarket research shows over half of the adult online users go to the Web for the information they need to manage their health."Web searchers need to know what to ask their physician and what the latest health news for their specific need is," Henderson said, adding that research shows 90 percent of them find the Web useful. If health information is so useful, then why aren't Internet health sites making any money?"Internet health sites have been ignoring the educated health consumer who is willing to save time and pay for information, and have relied on advertising for revenues, which has proven to be the wrong business model," Henderson said.To address this issue, NewsRx launched http://www.NewsRX.net"Rather than spending hours searching the Web, anyone can get a current, regularly-updated report on their specific health topic for only a few dollars, typically $5-$15. And they are receiving accurate, timely information from a reliable source," Henderson said."As a Web user searching for targeted health content, would you rather spend $15 on a report covering your exact needs, or had you rather spend the entire day surfing for information you may never find?" Henderson asks."Just acknowledging this point can address the need of additional revenue for health sites. NewsRx has developed a program specifically for Web sites in which we manage content, and they generate income from our revenue sharing initiative," Henderson said.NewsRx PartnersIn the NewsRx.net hot link program, any site that refers a user to the reports at NewsRx.net can receive half of the money generated from the sale of that report. To qualify, Web sites need to register as a NewsRx partner at www.NewsRx.net/partner4.htm or e-mail Alan Henderson, director of editorial content, at Alan@NewsRx.net."We are providing online health sites with a booster shot. Last year's model of giving away unfocused content needs to be replaced by this year's model, deriving income from selling specialized health content, and that solves the revenue problem," Henderson said."Now any Web site, not just a health site, can provide consumers and professionals with the ongoing information they need. NewsRx.net offers a large content source in encyclopedic breadth and accessibility," Henderson said.Building a healthier business model, Henderson said, helps the entire industry and the consumer as well."Health information is a primary draw for consumers and professionals to the Internet. Content will always be needed for healthcare sites and the NewsRx.net model can lead to repeat visits and potential revenues," Henderson said.About NewsRxNewsRx, a 16-year-old health information technology (HIT) company in the Atlanta suburb of Sugar Hill, uses cutting-edge proprietary database software to provide worldwide access to their information.
